#7 – 3D Origami Pig

I don’t know about you, but I definitely had an origami phase when I was younger. In elementary school, our teacher showed us a new book about 3-D origami, and I thought it was so neat how these little pieces could come together to make something so intricate!

  • 466 pink rectangles (4 cm x 7 cm)
  • 86 gray rectangles (4 cm x 7 cm)
  • Some extra scrap paper (black, pink and red)
  • 1 pink pipe cleaner

Pattern by Model 1003 Company

I’ve tried to find a source for the pattern online, but I was actually given this kit as a gift, so I’m not sure exactly where it’s from. It doesn’t help that it’s a Chinese kit, but if you’re interested, leave a comment and I’ll post a picture of the directions!

These 3-D origami crafts are all created using hundreds of the same triangular shape. I’ve added a quick tutorial on how to make this basic shape in the picture collage and instructions below!

image

  1. (top left) : Take the rectangle, coloured side up
  2. (top right) : Fold the rectangle in half, with the coloured sides on the outside
  3. (middle left) : Crease the middle, and fold the two ends toward the middle crease, then turn over the shape
  4. (middle right) : Fold up the two “arms” into triangles
  5. (bottom left) : Fold up the arms so that there is a triangle shape
  6. (bottom right) : Fold the triangle in half

That’s the basic shape! These triangles are then assembled according to directions into whatever shape you desire – vases, pigs, monkeys, dragons – you name it!

For my pig, I added a little tail made out of pipe cleaners wrapped around a pencil. I think it gives him a cute touch! Happy folding!
