I love having cozy mittens to wear in the winter! When I saw this pattern, I knew I had to make them. They reminded me a bit of the knitted mittens that they sell at Aritzia, so that was a huge bonus.

Don’t get me wrong – I loved these mittens. However, to keep my hands as toasty as possible, I decided that if I were to ever make this pattern again, I would add a fleece lining to help double the warmth!
The first step to creating the fleece lining was to cut out a mitten pattern from the fleece. I actually crocheted the mitten base first, but DID NOT seam them closed, or crochet the thumb. Then, I sized the fleece to fit, so that it would be a smooth lining without too much fabric bunching.
I then hand-stitched the three pieces together, somewhat clumsily. If you’ve got a sewing machine handy, I would probably go with that option instead, just because it’s faster and does a better job. Since these fleece pieces will only ever be inside the mitten though, I didn’t think the messy stitching was a big deal.
See how smoothly the fleece mitten fits inside of the crocheted mitten?
After checking the fit, I stitched in the fleece lining so that it wouldn’t shift during wear, and then seamed the sides of the mitten and added the thumbs.
Unfortunately, I gave these improved mittens away as a gift, and I forgot to take a finished picture. If I get a chance in the future to ask my friend, I will definitely try to add a picture of them!
