I don’t know how much you know about how to make yarn, but it typically involves spinning (or twisting) strands of fibre together. As an aside, I’ve always wanted to learn more about spinning, but that’s a project for another day. This week, I was shocked to learn about a new type of yarn that doesn’t involve any spinning. It’s called ‘blown yarn’ and it involves blowing fibre into a narrow mesh tube.

Review #9 – Fubbles No-Spill
I know that this isn’t exactly a hobby or craft, but if you work with preschoolers, you probably know how entertaining bubbles can be. You also probably know how clumsy preschoolers are. An entire jar of bubble liquid can get spilled in the blink of an eye. When my co-workers showed me Fubbles, my entire outlook on bubbles changed. Seriously. This is not a sponsored post, I just love Fubbles. And bubbles.

Without even noticing it, I’ve somehow ended up with a collection of project bags for knitting and crocheting. There are so many talented sewists out there, and the fabrics they find are so cute! I thought I would do a mini show-and-tell for some of the local Canadian makers I’ve found.
Continue readingReview #7 – Yarn Advent Calendars
My close friends have heard me dither about whether or not to get a yarn advent calendar for the last six years, and they’re probably absolutely sick of listening to me. Luckily for them, I finally committed to buying one for myself, so they never have to hear me argue the pros and cons again! I am so excited to start opening the packages tomorrow, but thought I would just give a quick overview of what it is and how it works.

When I learned that Edmonton was going to be getting Oomomo, a Japanese-style dollar store, I was overjoyed. I’ve only ever been to Daiso, a different franchise that sells everything from notebooks to seaweed stampers to everything in between, but I’m hoping that the two stores will be similar enough so that Oomomo will carry crochet supplies like Daiso does!
Review #5 – In the Deep Hue Sea
So ever since I started this blog, I’ve been trying to visit local yarn shops whenever I travel. Luckily, my travel companions have been pretty accommodating so far, even when I spend way too much time gushing over the selection once I get inside. On my latest trip to Los Angeles, the local yarn I picked up was by In the Deep Hue Sea!
Review #4 – ilex.every.day
Working with Holly was honestly a complete DREAM. She was so thoughtful and professional, and on top of that, she has an amazing eye for colour! If you are looking to support a local indie dyer, I would definitely suggest checking Holly out at her Etsy shop here!
Review #3 – TopKnot Style Yarns
Thanks to the wonder of the Internet, I’ve discovered that there is so much more to yarn than what is in stock at the local Michaels, and one of my favourite finds is definitely TopKnot Style! She gets her yarn made specifically for her business, and when I found out that she was making her custom yarn available for purchase, I knew I had to get in on that somehow.
Review #2 – Paintbox Yarns
I’ve never been keen for online shopping, but when I realized that I could be ordering yarn online, that was a game-changer.
Review #1 – BrickBubble
Ever since my friend helped me to re-design my logo, I’ve been dying to order custom tags that I can use on some of my creations!
