#55 – Bow Headband

Crafting is always more fun when it’s done together, so when my friend asked if I wanted to help her make Disney-themed headbands for her, I jumped at the opportunity! She’s heading Disney World over the Christmas break, so this was a perfect post-exam activity. We ended up making two headbands, one crocheted and one out of felt.

  • 1/20 skein of Red Heart Soft – a worsted weight (4) yarn (above: Really Red)
  • 1 headband
  • Size D (3.25 mm) hook

Most of the changes I made were due to time constraints, but I still like how everything turned out! For starters, I actually used a bigger hook than recommended, which I almost never do, but since the bow is meant to be big, I didn’t think it mattered. We also had to run off to Christmas dinners after crafting, so I ended up only doing 44 rows, rather than 48, and I skipped the row of single crochet around the rectangle as well. I don’t think that skipping the row of edging made any difference, but maybe I’m just not very discerning when it comes to how messy my stitches are. I do wish that I would have had time to have make the center knot though, since it gives the bow a much more finished look.

I would also strongly recommend using yarn to tie the bow on to the headband rather than hot-gluing it, as the hot glue tends to be ineffective when the headband flexes to accommodate the head.

For the other headband, we took our inspiration from Pinterest, and just free-handed it with felt, cardboard and hot glue! Again, I would say that hot glue may not be the best option, as the ears popped off the first time we tried to put the headband on. We didn’t have the time to think of a better solution, so we just used even more hot glue, and have crossed our fingers that it will hold.

Disney is always such a fun place! I went to Disneyland in Hong Kong over the summer with my cousin, and it was great. It’s quite a bit smaller in Hong Kong than California, or any other Disney park, but the magic is still the same.
